At All Saints' we believe that English has a pre-eminent place in education and in society. We aim to provide a high-quality education in English which will teach pupils to speak and write fluently so that they can communicate their ideas and emotions to others and through their reading and listening, others can communicate with them. Through reading in particular, our pupils have a chance to develop culturally, emotionally, intellectually, socially and spiritually. We believe that literature, especially, plays a key role in such development. We also believe that reading enables pupils both to acquire knowledge and to build on what they already know. All the skills of language are essential to participating fully as a member of society; pupils, therefore, who do not learn to speak, read and write fluently and confidently are effectively disenfranchised.

English Policy

SUBJECT AMBASSADORS

Evelin and Zak work alongside Mrs Marsden, who is the English subject leader, in things such as learning walks, lesson observations and pupil interviews.  This will help to develop their own leadership skills and develop our next steps in English.  By working together with the pupils, we aim to improve our knowledge, understanding and love of English and Reading.

ENGLISH SUBJECT AMBASSADOR

Hello my name is Evelin and I am the Pupil Subject Ambassador for English.

My favourite book is The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

I enjoy writing stories and learning new vocabulary.

I also like to work hard to improve my handwriting and presentation.

READING SUBJECT AMBASSADOR

Hello my name is Zak and I am the Pupil Subject Ambassador for Reading.

My favourite author is Michael Morpurgo.  I love to read!

Reading helps me to build my vocabulary to use in my writing and it also helps me to relax.

Assessment

 Children are assessed and monitored throughout the year using Key Learning Indicators of Performance (KLIPs).
