At All Saints' we believe that English has a pre-eminent place in education and in society. We aim to provide a high-quality education in English which will teach pupils to speak and write fluently so that they can communicate their ideas and emotions to others and through their reading and listening, others can communicate with them. Through reading in particular, our pupils have a chance to develop culturally, emotionally, intellectually, socially and spiritually. We believe that literature, especially, plays a key role in such development. We also believe that reading enables pupils both to acquire knowledge and to build on what they already know. All the skills of language are essential to participating fully as a member of society; pupils, therefore, who do not learn to speak, read and write fluently and confidently are effectively disenfranchised.

SUBJECT AMBASSADORS

Kourtney and Olivia work alongside Mrs Marsden, who is the English subject leader, in things such as learning walks, lesson observations and pupil interviews.  This will help to develop their own leadership skills and develop our next steps in English.  By working together with the pupils, we aim to improve our knowledge, understanding and love of English and Reading.

SCHOOL EVENTS

Christmas Poetry Competition

In school we held a Christmas Poetry competition which was organised by Georgia (English Subject Ambassador) and Lucy (Reading Subject Ambassador).  Our winners were Alice from Year 1 and Nevaeh Year 4.

CHRISTMAS DAY

I heard the bells on Christmas Day,

there old, familiar carols play.

And wild and sweet the words repeat.

Of peace on earth, goodwill to men.

by Nevaeh.

It's Christmas time,

the elves are working hard.

Lots of toys to be made,

I can't wait for mine!

Two naughty elves come to stay,

Around my house they will play!

by Alice.

Bedtime Stories with Reception, Year 1 and Year 2

Wednesday 16th November 2022

We had a magical evening at Bedtime Stories.  The children wore their pyjamas, dressing gowns, slippers and brought their favourite teddies and books.  We spent time reading and listening to stories.  Thank you to the amazing year 6 children for reading stories and sharing books.  Here are some photographs from the evening.
